OVERVIEW OF THE APPLICATION OF LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT TOOLS (LCA) IN URBAN PLANNING
Abstract
Abstract: In response to global environmental challenges such
as emissions, energy consumption, and resource depletion, Life
Cycle Assessment (LCA) is recognized as a comprehensive method
for evaluating environmental impacts across the entire life cycle
of buildings, infrastructure, and urban systems. This paper focuses
on four key areas where LCA is applied in urban assessment: the
built environment, transportation, water systems, and green
infrastructure. Despite its significant benefits, LCA faces challenges
such as data inconsistency and limited practical applications. The
study underscores the need to enhance research and integrate LCA
with other tools to optimize urban planning, thereby advancing
the development of green, sustainable, and climate-resilient cities
for the future
