Teachers’ current awareness regarding the development of digital competencies for students in biology teaching
Abstract
With the rapid advancement of digital technology, the digital transformation of education in Vietnam has made significant progress. This shift has created an urgent need to develop students’ digital competencies to meet the evolving demands of workforce development and talent cultivation in the digital age. This study examines biology teachers’ awareness of fostering students’ digital competencies through a random sample survey of 59 high school biology teachers. Statistical data analysis reveals that teachers widely recognize the importance of digital competencies and strongly advocate for their integration into student learning. They emphasize the need to enhance the role of digital learning materials, incorporate virtual experiments, and facilitate online interactions in teaching. However, the study also identifies key challenges, including limited access to technological equipment, insufficient digital learning resources, and deficiencies in IT skills among both teachers and students. These findings underscore the critical role of digital competency development in education and provide a theoretical foundation for designing educational programs that foster digital skills not only in Biology but across other disciplines.
