ANALYSIS OF THE JOB COMPETENCE FRAMEWORK FOR STAFFS IN THE RESTAURANT-HOTEL SECTOR IN CAN THO CITY

Abstract

This study is aimed to analyze the job competence framework for employees in the restaurant-hotel sector, which attracts a huge amount of human resource in the hospitality industry. The job competence framwork is proposed under the review of the existent literature, empirical findings, group discussion with experts, and a survey of 620 respondants (i.e. customers, staffs, and managers) working at restaurants and hotel in Can Tho city. The analyzed results show that the job competence framework for staffs in this sector is designed along with three core factors, namely knowledge, skills, awareness (responsibility). Depending on those who would give an assessment of the competence farmework, the number of component elements in each of three factors varies; for example, customer respondants (20 elements); staff respondants (32 elements), and manager respondants (32 elements). It is worth noting that the awareness factor is likely the most important than two remaining factors; besides, the elements belonged to the skill factor is assessed to be lower than others in the knowledge and the awareness factor; especially the communication skills. In conclusion, the study also refer to some points regarding to a further application in terms of an expansion of the studied area, an addition of the communication skill in foreign languages.
