Một số ý kiến về vai trò của mặt trận Buôn Ma Thuột trong cuộc Tổng tiến công và nổi dậy mùa Xuân năm 1975
Tóm tắt
At the end of 1974, the situation of the Southern Vietnamese battlefields shifted remarkably, the revolutionary force continuously gained many victories, making the Saigon army’s position and strength increasingly weakened. In that context, from December 18, 1974 to January 8, 1975, the Politburo held a conference to assess the situation in the southern battlefields. After analyzing and judging the opportunity, the Politburo highlighted the determination: "If opportunity comes at the beginning or the end of 1975, [we] immediately liberated the South in 1975". On March 10, 1975, the Buon Ma Thuot battle opened, marking the beginning of the Tay Nguyen Campaign - this was an extremely important opening battle for the great victory in the 1975 spring. With the ingenious military art, the Vietnamese People's Army units and the South Vietnamese Liberation Army took the Saigon Army units by complete surprise, leading to their passiveness and strategic mistakes. The Buon Ma Thuot victory made the opponent stunned, was a "push" for the liberation troops to march to Saigon to implement the Ho Chi Minh campaign, liberate the South, and reunify
the country in the 1975 spring. Before the campaign, however, there were many opinions from the American and the Republic of Vietnam generals about the Buon Ma Thuot Front, including Ted Serong, an Australian general and senior counterinsurgency advisor to the Saigon regime, who made suggestion to Nguyen Van Thieu to perform anatomy, remove the tactical zone 1st and 2nd, concentrated to protect the 3rd and 4th before the collapse of Buon Ma Thuot. However, the Saigon government did not want to conduct a surgery/abandoning the lands in mid -February as Ted Serong proposed. It is this mistake that is among causes leading to the Saigon army’s failure in the Buon Ma Thuot front that subsequently opened to a series of heavy defeats in Tay Nguyen, Hue - Da Nang campaign, and Ho Chi Minh campaign that finally brought a great victory to Vietnam Liberation Army, in which Vietnam is completely independent and unified after the 21-years resistance against the US to save the country (1954-1975).
