Abstract

Thang Long and Thien Truong were two greatest potitical centers of Dai Viet during Tran time. The dominance of the two centers was driving factor of economic, social and cultural developments of the country.

Thien Truong - the second capital city, was not only the homeland of the Tran royal family, but also a most important political center of the country. Besides, Thien Truong was a cultural and administrative center of the whole country. The ruling of the Tran's father king at Thien Truong made it is a special important center to the dynasty and that is why the Tran had to defense it at any price. The monuments in Thien Truong have manifested clearly it characteristics of a true royal citadel.

In relationships with Thang Long capital city, Thien Truong's roles and status were greatly important, and that were pointed out by me through my analysis of five points in this article.

However, the existence of Thien Truong as the second royal capital city was just to meet with the needs of the Tran Dynasty. Under other dynasties which were ruling before and after the Tran, Thien Truong was in fact a average administration unit, like any others.
