Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc - A School of New Model in the Early 20th Century and an Important Mark of the Vietnamese Education History
Abstract
Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc (ĐKNT - Hanoi Free School) was founded in March 1907 in Hanoi and closed by the French in December of the same year. Existing only 9 months but through its creative education activities and particularly with its large influence, ĐKNT in fact was not only a school of new-style, but was really an important theoretical, political and cultural movement - a large movement of the nationalist revolution in Vietnam in the early of 20th century.
ĐKNT was also capital mark in the history of Vietnamese education - a process that had to experience many difficulties. The school has left behind its many valuable lessons and experiences that we can learn for the education development today as the Party and Government are planning.
