The American Aids for Vietnam, 1995 - Present

  • Vũ Thị Thu Giang

Abstract

After 1975, there were no American aids for Vietnam as the former imposed an embargo on Vietnam. From the early 1990s, the United States began to renew its aids for Vietnam, though insignificant and strictly limited to human aids, not development aids. The main reason of this limitation was that the mutual relationship has yet been normalized.

After the normalization in July 1995, the American aids for Vietnam graw steadily, focusing on four main areas: human, medical, economic development, and environmental aids. Besides, the United State also provided ODA for Vietnam. This article seeks to reconsider the American aids for Vietnam since 1995, also to revisit the American diplomatic policy in aid activities in Vietnam.
