Abstract

There are so far a good number of researches on the resistance of Hanoi's army and people against the French aggression in northern Vietnam during the winter of 1946. These studies all considered the Vietnamese victorious campaign in the autumn and winter of 1947 as the first campaign of Vietnam's People Army.

Recapitulating the condition of the battlefield at that time and reconsidering the general definition of military campaign, this article argues that the 60-day campaign inside Hanoi, which took place between December 1946 and February 1947, was in fact the first attacking campaign made by Vietnam's People Army.
