Pham Dinh Trong and the Existence of the Le-Trinh Court in the Mid-Eighteenth Century
Abstract
The Vietnamese society in the mid-eighteenth century was facing a serious crisis as the peasant movement geared up. The feudalism yet, continued to exist as the capitalist force had not emerged in the Vietnamese society. The farmer uprisings therefore only broke out in the Red River delta and did not become nation-wide as did the Tay Son Movement in the late eighteenth century. Therefore, the Le-Trinh feudal court could suppress all of the peasant revolts. One of the people who contributed greatly to protect the existence of the Le-Trinh feudal court was the outstanding mandarin Pham Dinh Trong.
