Abstract

The focuses of this article are on the failures and successes of three times of Vietnam's open door and integration in the twentieth century, from which to express some thoughts on the catching of opportunities in the current integration.

The first took place in the early twentieth century with the patriotic movements of Phan Boi Chau and Phan Chau Trinh, which aimed to stimulate a movement of appealing foreign aids. Nevertheless, the opportunity passed when the French authority allied with the Japanese to eliminate the patriotic scholars and put down reform trends.

The second time took place in the mid-twentieth century in the context of order of two-pole world. The open door and integration to she socialist world contributed to the success of the work of country's salvation, independence protection and reunification.

The third one was at the end of twentieth century, when the Cold War ended. The Vietnamese communist party correctly considered the development of the new tendencies of the world and took advantages of a moderate world. Despite the disintegration of the socialism regime in USSR, the innovation policy of the Party has made Vietnam firmly move forwards with enlarged external relations and integration into international organizations. The international position of Vietnam, as well as the domestic economy and social life therefore have improved.

From the above-mentioned experiences, it is clear that only by taking initiative to improve integration with outside world, especially international economic integration and implementation of open, multilateral, diversified policy of external relation does Vietnam enable to grasp new opportunities and promote process of open door and integration in the twenty-first century.
