Abstract

Market economy and social-oriented market economy is the basic categories in the system of modern economic theories in our country. The market economy can be understood as commodity economy developed at a high level. It is also the inevitable result of the development of labor forces. History of the world economy undergoes three basic models, including free-market economy, social-market economy, and socialist-oriented market economy.

Conducting researches on market economy and socialist -oriented market is both theoretically and practically meaning full in establishing a model of market economy apporiate to our country’s conditions and objectives. There have been many researches on market economy rich in contents, including the necessity of the development of the market economy, positive and negative impact of market mechanisms, solutions for development of social-oriented market economy in Vietnam, and so on . In the scope of this article, two basic issues are mentioned. Economic models of the world market and socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam along with its oppurtunities and challenges of this economic model.

Socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam has some basic characteristics reflecting differences between the market economy in Vietnam and market economy of capitalist countries. It is a multi-sector economy in which state economy plays a key role. It is operated market mechanism with the management of state-driven socialism. Market economy in Vietnam have different ways of income distribution. in which distribution based on contribution of each labor is a primary form towards fairness in income distribution. These characteristics are the concretization of market development objectives, which aims at successful establishment of socialism in Vietnam.
