Abstract

The research was conducted in January 2020 - May 2020 to examine the reality of violence against women and girls from women's experience. The survey sample included 553 women who were currently living and working in Da Nang city. The research instrument is a questionnaire composed of closed questions for the subjects to answer themselves. The data were then statistically analyzed with SPSS 22.0 software. The findings show that women have certain experiences with violence, especially violence in the home and in public places. Victims of violence can be anyone, of any age. Women who have witnessed or experienced violence have many similarities in terms of form, time, place and object of violence. When witnessing violence, most women actively seek in formation and support from responsible organizations (police or violence victim support services), but when experiencing violence, the mentality
of hiding remains common among the victims, or they only shared with their family without seeking help from the authorities. Gender - based violence has significant impacts on the victims, both physically and mentally, especially psychologically, causing them to fear, lose sleep, lose confidence and limit social communication.
