Abstract

This paper studies the verb-object separable words based on the statistics and analysis of Vietnamese students’ Chinese interlanguage corpus. The results showed that Vietnamese students have the following characteristics of using language at different stages: (1) The frequency of use is quite high, but the ratio of separated-combined usage is very low; (2) The number of separable words used is not very rich, and their combined forms are mainly used; (3) The types of separation forms used are quite rich. The study also found that the use of Vietnamese students develops in the following directions: (1) The frequency of use of the combined form develops in the direction of high-low-high; (2) The frequency of use of the separated form decreases with time; (3) The ratio of separated-combined usage develops in an inverted U-shape; (4) The number of separated words used increases with the improvement of Chinese proficiency; (5) The types of separated forms develop steadily. Based on the above research results, we put forward some suggestions for Chinese language teaching in Vietnam.
