Building a smart mining education ecosystem and developing a digital workforce in the era of industry 4.0
Abstract
Amid the rapid advancement of Industry 4.0, Vietnam’s mining sector faces urgent demands to transform toward smart and digital operations. Emerging technologies such as automation, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are fundamentally reshaping how mining activities are organized and managed.
In this context, building a smart mining education ecosystem is considered a strategic foundation for training engineers capable of mastering modern technologies, ensuring occupational safety, improving production efficiency, and minimizing environmental impact. At the same time, developing a digitally competent workforce is a key factor enabling the mining industry to adapt to modern production environments and meet national digital transformation goals.
This report analyzes the theoretical foundation, the current situation in Vietnam, and international best practices from countries like Canada, Australia, and China. It also proposes specific solutions: (1) Innovating training programs by integrating digital technologies; (2) Strengthening collaboration between universities, enterprises, and international organizations; (3) Developing online learning platforms and practical learning environments; and (4) Enhancing supportive policies and investing in educational technology infrastructure.
Establishing a smart mining education ecosystem and cultivating a digital workforce is not only a critical requirement but also a driving force for the sustainable development of Vietnam’s mining sector in the digital age.
