ANALYZING AND PROPOSING A SUSTAINABILITY-ORIENTED BREEDING MODEL AT THE ECONOMIC ZONE OF CAU TREO INTERNATIONAL FRONTIER PASSAGE

Abstract

Directly affected by the closure of the non-tariff area of Cau Treo Border Gate and the policy of forest closure of Laos, the economy of Son Kim 1 commune (Huong Son - Ha Tinh) have shifted from trade and forest exploitation to livestock development. Based on quantitative and qualitative results of the survey from the project "Sustainable Development in Laos and in Vietnam in the Context of International Integration" and the SWOT analysis method, the paper evaluates the situation of some current livestock models in Son Kim 1 commune, thereby giving some limitations from these models. Based on the theory of sustainable livestock development and the value chain linkage model in livestock production, the paper proposes a cooperative livestock model for Son Kim 1 commune and discusses some issues raised in the formation and development of this model for the commune in current context.
