  • Nguyễn Ngọc Diễm

Abstract

Street vending is one of informal economic activities. In most of urban areas, it is considered as a typical feature of urban identity. Ho Chi Minh City, a top populous city in Vietnam, currently has a large number of street vendors. To meet the needs of urban street vendors, contributing to the development of livelihoods for low-income people while ensuring the appearance of the city, the "models of street vendors" has been applied by the city government on some streets. By analyzing and evaluating two models being implemented at Nguyen Van Chiem Street and Bach Tung Diep Park based on 3 criteria: economy, society and environment, the article raises the question if the model helps on the sustainability of the city.
