Abstract

Catholicism has appeared in Saigon since the seventeenth century; after the 1954 exodus, Catholic community in the Southeast of Vietnam had no longer maintained the homogeneity of ethnic origin, professional composition. In Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City, parishioners gathered in separate clusters, trying to maintain their cultural flow with church architecture, art of worshiping, funerals... especially how to name parishes. Through the statistical results of the law of naming parish in Ho Chi Minh City, the article explores and explains factors about cultural consciousness of communities through the origin of the homeland, customs, careers... of the parishioners in early period.
