Socio-economic Cooperation in Mekong Committee during Period of 1957-1975
Abstract
In 1957, established in the Lower Mekong region was an international cooperation mechanism related to the exploitation of resources of the river - an organisation named the Mekong Committee (MC). The mechanism consists of four members: Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam (the Republic of Vietnam, from 1955 to 1975). In the period of 1957-1975, the committee made certain contributions to the socio-economic development of the Lower Mekong region. This article is aimed to provide an overview on its establishment, organisational structure and activities as well as the situation of socio-economic cooperation in it, from which the author will make comments and assessments on the results of its operations from 1957 to 1975.
