Correlation between the prevalence of Heterakis gallinarum and blackhead disease in chickens
Abstract
The result of autopsy for 1276 chickens in Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang province showed that 617 chickens were infected with Heterakis gallinarum, with the infection rate was 48.35%; 244 chickens were infected with Histomonas meleagridis – a dangerous parasite species caused blackhead disease in chicken, with the infection rate was 48.35%.There was a direct correlation between the infection rate of blackhead disease and the infectionrate of Heterakis gallinarum in chicken with R=0.94 resulting in use of Minitab software, version 14.0 for analyzing the scientific data. Testing the soil samples collecting from the floor and surround of the chicken house, and grazing area indicated that all of these samples were infected with the pinworm eggs with the infection rates were 49.84%, 40.32%, and 26.27% respectively.
