Abstract

A survey on the use of antibiotics and β-agonist in the pig raising households in Thai Binh province combining with taking 235 pork samples, 66 chicken meat samples, 144 pig urine samples at the slaughterhouses (pig, chicken) in the northern provinces, Vietnam in 2015, were conducted for determining antibiotic residues (sulfadimidin, enrofloxacin, chloramphenicol)and β-agonist (salbutamol, clenbuterol) in fresh pork and chicken meat. The studied result showed that knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) related to the use of antibiotics in the pig raising households were limited. The antibiotic choice, dose decision and with drawal time of the farmers were mainly based on their experiences, with the rate was 68.3%, 35.0% and 60.0%, respectively. The knowledge of the veterinary practitioners was betterthan the farmers but the use of antibiotics at the pig raising households was based mainly on their experience and there was not laboratory diagnosis. The studied result on residues showed that there were 3.0%, 1.7% and 3.8% of pork samples at the slaughterhouses over the permitted residue limit of sulfadimidin, enrofloxacin, chloramphenicol, respectively. Similarly, there were 3.0% and 1.5% of chicken meat samples positive with enrofloxacin, chloramphenicol respectively. There were 4.3% and 6.3% of the pig urine samples taken at the slaughterhouses positive with β-agonist (salbutamol). The residue concentration ranges in the positive samples varied greatly: sulfadimidin content in the pork samples was 33.8 -1,877.5 μg/kg, enrofloxacin content in the chicken meat samples was 128.7 - 1161.0 μg/kg, and salbutamol content in the pig urine samples was 2.86 – 6810.0 μg/kg.
