Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of anesthesia between using the isoflurane inhalation anesthesia method and IV Zoletil injectable anesthesia method in clinical surgery in dog. A total of 40 cases were divided into 2 groups: The healthy dog and the pathological dog groups (in each group, 10 cases using isoflurane and 10 cases using Zoletil separately). The experimental result showed that the heartbeat frequency of the dogs in the Zoletil intravenous anesthesia method was variable and higher than that of the dogs in the isoflurane inhalation method. The respiratory frequency, blood pressure readings of the experimental dogs between the 2 anesthesia methods were not significantly different. Body temperature index of the dogs was remarkably decreased in both experimental dog groups, therefore warming the animals during the surgery need to be taking into account. The concentration of dissolved oxygen in blood of the dogs in the group using isoflurane (90-95%) was stable and always reached at a higher safety level compared with the dogs in the group using Zoletil (80-85%). The isoflurane inhalation method induced 100% of the animals losing reflex, falling in deep anesthesia, less reflex during anesthesia, continuously maintaining anesthesia, and quick recovery (7.39 minutes). The studied results show that the inhalation anesthesia method is safe, suitable for the cases with complex surgery and need long time.
