Pathological and clinical characteristics of experimentally infected local pigs with lungworm in Dien Bien province
Abstract
Study on pathological and clinical characteristics of lungworm disease in the local pigs in Dien Bien province was conducted on 5 experimental infection pigs in 2018 - 2019. The studied results showed that the life cycle completion time of lungworms in the infection pigs was 31 - 36 days. Since the life cycle completion in the infection pigs, the lungworms continually discharged their eggs in the feces to the environment and reached the highest number of eggs on the day 50th - 56th then gradually declined. The clinical manifestations of the infection pigs included weakness, dry skin, dry cough and prolonged cough. The rate of weight gain decreased by 30% compared to the healthy pigs. Observation on the histological lesions under microscope indicated that the lung organization of the infection pigs became hard, solid and presenting gray or white colours, lung with emphysema, in alveolars enhanced fluid secretion, inflammatory cell infiltration, congestive lung tissues, dilated bronchus, with proliferation of lymphocytes and macrophages cells, especially eosinophils, liver surface with large granulomas in lobes, liver with hard and yellow phenomenon, heart muscle hypertrophy, hemorrhage.
