Abstract

The antibodies against Leptospira infection and semen quality in the investigated boars were evaluated from December 2017 to December 2018 in Long An province using questionnaires. A total of 158 blood samples from the boars was collected to detect the antibodies against
Leptospira by using MAT test, together with 158 of semen samples of the boars were collected to evaluate the VAC. The investigated and tested results showed that the Leptospira infection rate of boar household farms was 54.89% and the Leptospira infection rate of boars was 54.43%
in Long An province. The appeared frequency of icterohaemorhagiae serovar was the highest in boars (47.37%), of which there were many boars infected with more than one type of serovar. The major risk factors associating with Leptospira in the boar farms were farming area, herd
size, domestic animals (poultry, dogs…) entering in the farms usually, and the daily wast feed were not removed. The boars were infected with lot of Leptospira serovars then the semen quality was reduced. For instance, if the boars were infected additionally with one serovar more then the VAC indicator would reduce 2.7 billion of sperms
