Abstract

A total of 360 backyard chickens were randomly collected from 3 districts (Chau Thanh, Cang Long and Tra Vinh town in Tra Vinh province) for autopsy to detect helminth infection. The investigated results showed that the infection rate of backyard chickens with helminth in the surveyed areas was 95.9%, varying 95%, 97.5% and 98.3% in the chicken age groups of 30-60, 61-120 and >120 days old, respectively. The results of classification and identification of helminths species on backyard chickens by using parasitological techniques showed that the chickens were infected with 7 helminth species, including Nematoda class: A. galli and H.
galinarum; Cestoda class: R. tetragona, R. cesticillus and R. echinobothrida; Trematoda class: E. revolutum and E. recurvatum. Of which, the high infection rate and intensity was 48.9%, 18.9% and 11.7% in A. galli, H. galinarum and R. tetragona, respectively.
