Abstract

African swine fever (ASF) is a highly infectious viral disease, caused by African swine fever virus (ASFV), a species of the Asfarviridae family. In this study, a cross – sectional survey was carried out on the small holder pig farms in Ben Tre province. The information were collected by interviewing directly 90 households for identifying potential risk factors associated with the
occurrence of ASF. The pig farm environment and pig blood samples were tested by Realtime PCR technique to identify the ASFV prevalence. The analysed result on the risk factors relating with ASF infection transmission showed that the highest risk factors included the distance from the pig farms to the main road was less than 1km, used the kitchen leftovers, purchased the
piglets from the unknown origins, by the people and the pig farms located near the markets. Besides, the prevalence of ASFV in the pig farm environments was not found.
