Evaluation on efficacy of three different kits for extracting DNA and RNA total from field samples

Abstract

In this study, we evaluated and compared the yield, quality, time, cost and process of extracting DNA and RNA from the pig fecal, lympho node and lung samples by three extraction methods. The studied result showed that QIAamp Cador pathogen mini kit had given the highest DNA and RNA extracted yield. The quality of the extracted DNA and RNA of E.Z.N.A.® Universal Pathogen kit was lowest. The minimum number of extracted steps for QIAamp Cador
pathogen mini kit was determined. But the time and cost of the Viral Gene-spinTM Viral DNA/RNA extraction kit was shortest and lowest, respectively. The most suitable kit for extracting the field samples was QIAamp Cador pathogen mini kit, because it had given the high DNA, RNA yield, quality, and the simple process to purify both RNA and DNA from the same sample
