Olfactory characteristics of the indigenous dog breed - wolf form
Abstract
Assessing olfactory ability of the indigenous dog breed - wolf form in 3 different age stages with 30 individuals for each age stage was carried out at Viet Nam - Russia Tropical Centre from 12/2016 to 12/2019. The olfactory ability of the puppy stage for the orientation criteria reached the highest score (4.47±0.10 points) and the lowest olfactory sensitivity reached 3.67±0.10 points. The level of active searching and ability to smell continuously was similar. For the dogs at 3-8 months old, the olfactory sensitivity, the level of active searching reached the highest score: 4.53 ± 0.10 points and 4.37 ± 0.11 points, respectively. The lowest score was the criteria to smell continuously and olfactory orientation (3.97±0.12 points and 3.87±0.13 points, respectively). At the adult stage, there was a clear difference between the criteria, achieving
the highest score was olfactory sensitivity (4.76±0.10 points) and the lowest score was olfactory orientation (3.43±0.09 points).
