Abstract

Feline panleukopenia (FPL) is an acute, infectious disease, has the ability to spread
widely through direct contact or contact with the waste containing pathogen. This study was
conducted in 3 reputable veterinary medical examination and treatment establishments in Ha
Noi to evaluate a number of epidemiological characteristics and clinical symptoms of cats which
were taken to medical examination and showed a positive reaction to the rapid FPV test.
The result of epidemiological analysis revealed that the morbidity rate of indigenous, exotic
and hybrid cats were 58.76%, 27.84% and 13.4%, respectively. The cats at below 1 year old were
the most susceptibility to Feline panleukopenia virus (FPLV), with the infection rate up to 84.88% The male cats were found more susceptible compared to the female cats (62.32 vs 37.68%). The
infection rate of captive cats was lower (38.45%) than the free-grazing cats (61.05%). The typical
clinic symptoms of FPL included: vomiting (76.76%), anorexia to completely refuse food (72.72%),
fever (66.66%), watery and bloody diarrhea (64.64%), depression and exhaust (51.51%).
The analysis results of present study provides the useful data for initial diagnosis, helping
the veterinarians in providing an effective treatment regimen for Feline panleukopenia infection.
