Abstract

The result of testing 800 lung and 800 nasal swab samples collected from the pigs in Bac Giang,
Thai Nguyen, Nam Dinh and Thanh Hoa provinces showed that overall rate of pigs infected with B.
bronchiseptica was 4.06% (65/1,600), in which positive sample rate of lung samples and nasal swab
samples was 4.25% and 3.88%, respectively. The biochemical properties of all the B. bronchiseptica
isolates were similar to the biochemical properties of the reference strain (B. bronchiseptica ATCC®
4617). The result of examining 65 B. bronchiseptica isolates showed that there were 57 (87.69%)
isolates carried at least one of the virulent genes among the following genes: dnt, fha, bvgA, cyaA,
prn and 32 (49.23%) of the isolates killed 100% the experimental mice within under 16 to 72 hours
