Abstract

The survey to assess the immune response after vaccination with Rabisin rabies vaccine in dogs in Kien Giang and Can Tho was carried out by ELISA method with the SERELISA®
Rabies Ab Mono Indirect kit. The surveyed results showed that 65.87% of dogs after vaccination possessed protective antibody. The protection rate of dogs raised in the inner city (73.79%) was higher than that of dogs raised in the suburban area (60.40%). The percentage of dogs having protective antibodies by age was as follows: the dogs under 1 year old (49.18%), followed by the dogs 1-3 years old (67.71%) and the dogs over 3 years old (74.74%). The immune response
rate of dog reduced gradually by time, that was 86.59% in the period less than 6 months, 59.63% in the period from 6 to 12 months and 49.18%. in the period more than 12 months.
Immune response ability of the domestic dogs was (58.99%) higher than that of the exotic dogs (74.34%). However, gender did not affect post-vaccination immune response.
