Abstract

A cross study for detecting Leptospira infection in 1.942 dog serum in Ho Chi Minh City were conducted by using the microscopic agglutination test (MAT). The studied result indicated that seroprevalence of Leptospira was 22.45%, and the infection rate of dogs ≤ 1 year old was higher than
in dogs >1 year old. There was no statistically significant difference on infection rate between male and female dogs or indigenous and exotic dogs or in urban and rural areas. Seropositivity was most common to serovars: L. bataviae (41.23%) and L. copenhogeni (26.24%), followed by L. saxkoebing (9.37%) and L. canicola (6.81%). The antibody titers of Leptospira ranged from 1: 100 to 1: 3,200,
and common titer at 1:100 (42.76%) and 1:200 (34.58%). The two serovars with the highest titer (1:3,200) were L. bataviae and L. australis. Co-infection of different serovars were found in dogs, from 2-6 serovars (24.77%) and the most common was L. bataviae with other serovars.
