Abstract

A cross-sectional investigation was conducted on 147 female cats with abnormal genitalia that were
taken to the teaching Veterinary clinic of Can Tho University for examination. Application of clinical
diagnostic methods combined with ultrasound to diagnose dystocia in cats. The aim of this study was
to investigate dystocia in cats and evaluate the risk factors for the disease. The studied results showed
that a total of 42 female cats were suffered with dystocia, accounting for 28.57% of the total number of
cats surveyed. Injected contraceptives and fetal macrosomia were the two main causes of dystocia in
cats. Symptoms such as: continuous pushing without delivering; fever, anorexia, enlarged abdomen,
overdue date via sonography; cervical dilatation was very small, green or black discharge with stink
were quite reliable clinical signs to guide the diagnosis of dystocia in cats. The results of the survey on
the correlation of risk factors showed that the contraceptive injection cats were suffered with dystocia
with 4.96 times higher compared to the cats without contraceptive injection, the free -range cats faced
with infection risk with 3.61 times higher compared to the captive cats
