VIEWPOINT OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF VIETNAM ON SOLVING EAST SEA PROBLEMS TODAY
Abstract
The East Sea (as called in Vietnam) is a sea surrounded by 9 countries: China, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and one territory is Taiwan. The East Sea is not only an important strategic area for countries in the region but also for Asia – Pacific and the rest of the world. The East Sea problem has very broad content. First of all, it is the matter of territorial sovereignty of countries along the East Sea coast, the matter of delimiting borders, continental shelves and overlapping areas between countries. In the 21st century, the East Sea matter is also a matter of freedom, security, international maritime safety, big countries vying for influence and other non-traditional security matters… Within the scope of this article, the author focuses on generalizing some viewpoint of the Communist Party of Vietnam on resolving East Sea matters in the current context.
