Abstract

HUẾ - THE CRADLE OF VIETNAMESE ÁO DÀI
From the fact that Lord Nguyễn Phúc Khoát proclaimed himself a king in Phú Xuân Capital in 1744, the Five-flaps dress (Áo dài Ngũ thân) was born and diffused widely in Đàng Trong (Cochinchina) where during Minh Mạng’s Reign, the Emperor had many times commanded the people, both male and female wearing it. The Áo dài born in Huế has became the National dress - a symbol of Vietnam’s costume culture. It also consists of the Royal Capital’s features. Huế Ancient Capital should take a leading position in mobilizing Vietnam’s National Áo dài restoring.
