Trends and structural patterns of international scientific publishing at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering phase 2015–2024: A bibliometric analysis by publishing models

Abstract

This study examines trends and structural patterns of Scopus-indexed international publications at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) during 2015–2024 by comparing traditional subscription-based publishing (TSB) and open access (OA). Scopus data were analyzed using bibliometric and descriptive methods. The results show a marked growth in HUCE’s publication output, particularly after 2018. OA expanded rapidly and accounted for over 40% of total publications; however, it did not replace TSB, instead coexisting within a parallel publishing structure. Notably, the choice of publishing models varies across HUCE’s core disciplinary fields, reflecting disciplinary characteristics that shape distinct publishing behaviors and strategies. The findings provide empirical evidence to inform policy formulation and publication strategy development at technical universities.
