Pedagogical measures for enhancing primary teacher’s competence in integrating local education content into experiential learning activities

Abstract

The 2018 General Education Curriculum identifies experiential learning activities as a crucial component for fostering and developing students’ competencies and qualities through active engagement in real-life situations. In addition, local education is designated as a compulsory content area, required to be integrated across various subjects and educational activities, thereby nurturing students’ love for their homeland and their awareness of preserving local cultural and historical values. In this context, enhancing primary school teachers’ competence in integrating local educational content into experiential learning activities becomes both essential and urgent. This article clarifies key theoretical concepts related to integrated teaching, local education, experiential learning, and teachers’ instructional competence, as well as the significance and importance of integrating local educational content into experiential activities for primary school students in accordance with the 2018 General Education Curriculum. Based on this foundation, the paper proposes several measures to strengthen primary school teachers’ capacity to integrate local educational content into experiential learning activities.
