THE ETHNOGRAPHIC APPROACH IN THE STUDY OF VIETNAMESE TRAVEL WRITING IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE CENTURY XX

Abstract

Being introduced in Postmodernism, Ethnological criticism has been applied early to study the relationship between travel literature and ethnology with travel writing genre. Ethnography is also one of the contents of Vietnamese travel writing in the first half of the twentieth century, but limited studies have been conducted on this aspect. Applying an ethnographic approach to study these contents of the travel writing genre in Vietnam through a number of works, this paper presents the clarification of how travel writers have solved ethnic psychological issues and the reflection method of this genre in Vietnam in the first half of the twentieth century.
