Abstract

Amidst the backdrop of global environmental crises and the growing ecological concerns in Vietnam, ecocriticism has emerged as an innovative and urgent critical approach in literary studies. A number of Vietnamese scholars have taken up engaging with modern and contemporary literature through an ecological lens, thereby contributing to the expansion of literary discourse and underscoring the intricate relationship between humans and nature, culture and the environment. Contemporary Vietnamese novels have increasingly embraced an ecological consciousness, taking on the mission of advocating for environmental protection, raising awareness about ecological degradation, and reflecting on the complex interactions between humanity and the natural world. The systematization of various ecocritical approaches not only helps to elucidate the theoretical and practical development of ecocriticism in Vietnam but also offers significant insights for the contemporary study and teaching of literature.
