Vietnamese literature on the renewal and integration road

Abstract

Within around two decades of the renewal, Vietnam had attained enormous achievements in political, economic, social, cultural...fields, making firm steps on the road to international integration. Development and integration are becoming irreversible trends of the times and the society, advancing towards the unity in diversity. This is also the correct direction to preserve the national identity as well as the fine tradition of the national culture in globalization.

In that spirit, the Institute of Literature (Vietnam) and Harvard Yenching Institute (the US) had co-organized the International Conference on Vietnamese literature in the context of regional and international cultural exchange. The aim of the conference was to give an opportunity for participants to exchange, give comments, evaluate and make relevant proposals on the basis of scientific surveillance and analysis of phenomena, processes and the link between Vietnamese literature with regional and international cultural exchange, thus having more scientific reasonale, new interpretations of achievements, prospects and challenges arising in the evolution of national literature at the time beings.

The Conference had drawn participation of nearly 200 Vietnamese and international scientists; 65 presentations were delivered and many comments were given at the Conference. The following contents were discussed at the Conference:

1. Vietnamese literature in the renewal period

2. The relationship between literature and culture

3. The role of literature translation comparative studies

4. Interaction between oral-transmitted literature and written literature; literature and arts.
