Milestones in development of economic thinking of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the 20-year renewal (1986-2006)

Abstract

Based on studies of the documents of the Party's National Congresses, from the Fifth to the Tenth Congresses, as well as the economic achievements recorded by the country in the 1986-2006 period, the article attempts to conceptualize and clarify developments – milestones in renewing the economic thinking of the Communist Party of Vietnam during that period. It is confirmed in the article that the renewal and explicit developments in economic thinking of the Communist Party of Vietnam prove a resolute, protracted struggle characterized by full of ups and downs both in practice and theoretical, ideological front. Furthermore, the article also analyzes experiences, lessons learnt for continued renewal of economic thinking; the development and deeper and broader integration into the current international economic life. Finally, the author concludes that the reality verifies the correctiveness of the renewal policy under the Party's leadership.
