Cultural life of Vietnamese after 20 years of the renewal

  • Nguyễn Văn Dân

Abstract

After undergoing twenty years of renewal and international integration, Vietnamese culture has had profound changes which are characterized by more diversification, improvement and openness. This results from the open-door policy initiated by the Party and State, particularly from the change in mindset. In this article, the author analyzed crucial attributes in this process. They included legal-political reforms, absorption of the world cultural values which contributed to enriching Vietnamese culture, restoration of traditional cultural values, etc. Additionally, the author indicated issues arising from the succession of national traditions and absorption of the world culture at large. As the author stated, it is radically important to rectify abusive phenomena in taking in external cultural values, particularly Western cultural values.
