Maximizing information resources about Vietnamiology

  • Vương Toàn

Abstract

Today, Vietnamioloty (Vietnam studies) is no longer an odd and separate work done by a single individual. In the past, studies on Vietnam had only been collected and presented at international conferences abroad, but now that two international symposiums on Vietnamioloty have been convened in Vietnam and the third of this kind is being held in Hanoi in December 2008.

Institutes of Vietnamioloty are not only established abroad, but there is one known as the Institute of Vietnam Studies and Development Science at Hanoi National University. Additionally, some universities also have Faculties of Vietnamioloty. This means there are formal training programs for undergraduate and post- graduate degrees on Vietnam Studies.

Nevertheless, to meet the demand of information users is to reform the outdated categorization (in the form of cards or volumes). However, it needs to reach a consensus among information centers and libraries to launch a common program on Vietnamiology, facilitating the integration and parallel development with the world's information-library sector. The author through this article attempts to share some of his thoughts with readers on this matter.
