Aspirations for renewal and what is the destination?
Abstract
Vietnamese literature and arts not only work to meet essential needs of people but also are engaged in the revolutionary cause. They fulfilled their historic missions in response to the nation’s wars against external aggressors to attain national independence as a special army in the ideological and cultural battle of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), mobilizing and encouraging the entire Vietnamese people to follow the path chosen by the Party and President Hochiminh. Reaffirming the great role by literature and arts, and with a view to bringing such role into full play in the life of the country, espcially in the current period, the Politburo of the CPV (10th Tenure) issued the Resolution 23-NQTW of 16 June 2008 on “Continued building and development of literature-arts in the renewal period”. This article attempts to examine the on-going changes in literature and to explore the developmental trend (or destination) of Vietnamese literature in response to new requirements posed in the exchange and integration in the globalised era.
