Abstract

In every five years in Vietnam, the community of domestic and international Vietnam researchers has an opportunity to meet, gather, exchange and present their latest research works on Vietnam, laying the foundation for establishing potential cooperative relationships in the academic field. The third international conference on Vietnamese studies with the theme: “Vietnam: Integration and Development” was recently convened in Hanoi on 4-7 December 2008. Along with participants from the host country, the Conference drew attention and participation of scholars who came from various countries and regions around the world. Hundreds of specific and inter-disciplinary research works were presented at the Conference. Supplementary to common development trends, numerous scholarly papers emphasized the current issues in Vietnam, indicating clearly an irreversible trend of the globalized age: integration to advance together. The researchers made a wide range of recommendations and suggestions relating to academic activities, as well as cooperation and science development that drew attention from the participants.
