People and culture are the research objects of vatious social sciences and humanity discipline. Thus, to study basic characteristics of people and culture in general, or to research on people and culture of Vietnamses communities abroad in particular, is to adopt an inter-disciplinary research approach. This was also the main approach discussed at a semimar on research methods concerning “Basic characteristics of people and culture of Vietnamese communities abroad today”, which was convened in Hanoi in November 2008 within a state-level project with the same title (coded KX.03.19/06-10) chaired by Prof. Associate and Dr. Vũ Hào Quang – Institute of Public Opinions under the Central Commission for Propaganda and Education.
