Some thoughts on the Law on the Elderly and how to bring into play the role of the elderly, especially specialists and intellects in advanced age

Abstract

The phenomenon of aging population is becoming a common trend of all countries around the world, including Vietnam. This also implies that the influence and the role of advanced-age people in our society are increasing. Thus, that how to bring the role of the elderly into play is very important.

With a good understanding of the aging population trend in the world as well as in Vietnam, the Party and the State have recognized and appreciated the role played by the elderly in society. The Law on the Elderly, which recently superseded the Ordinance on the Elderly, is an obvious illustration of this recognition.

This article attempts to explore the aging population trend in the world; the laws and policies adopted by the Party and the State towards the elderly. That how to bring into play and responsibility of families and the society to advance the role of the elderly, especially specialists and intellects in advanced age is also discussed in the article.
