Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the influence of different levels of maize powder on growth, carotenoid, and protein concentrations in the flesh of the swamp eel (Monopterus albus). The study was conducted at a fish hatchery located in Phu Thu ward, Cai Rang District, Can Tho City. The experiment was randomly set up with three treatments: swamp eels were fed pellet feed with 41% protein content supplemented with maize powder at different levels 0%, 6%, and 12%.. Swamp eel was nursed in the circulating tank system with a density of 200 fish per m2 for 8 months. The results showed that the survival rate was the same in all treatments while the daily weight growth of swamp eel was the highest (1,038 g/day) with 6% maize powder supplementation. Protein concentration in the flesh of swamp eel was insignificantly higher than in the control treatment and in the wild swamp eel, 73.0%, compared to 69.1%. .. In addition, carotenoid concentration in the flesh of swamp eel was the same as in wild swamp eel.
