UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION FOR LITERATURE IN VIETNAM: REALITY AND PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

n Vietnamese national education system, Literature as a major belongs to Humanities field of training and has over 70-year of undergraduate education history. Nowadays, in Vietnam, Literature as a major is trained almost in all multidisciplinary universities including national and regional ones. The aim of this paper is to describe a reality and a tendency of bachelor in literature training in Vietnamese universities, focusing on the following points: 1. Curriculum structure of Bachelor in Literature Programmes offered by 5 biggest and most prestigious universities in this field over the country (in the Northern Vietnam: USSH-VNU Hanoi and Hanoi Pedagogical University; in the Central Vietnam: Hue University and Danang University; in the Southern Vietnam: USSH- VNUHCM); 2. Expected learning outcomes of Bachelor in Literature Programme and its compatibility to Vietnam National Qualifications Framework; 3. Integrating capability of Bachelors in Literature to the labor market; 4. Tendency of Bachelor in Literature training in the coming time. The analytical data for points 2, 3, 4 is mostly taken from training practices at Faculty of Literature, USSH-VNU Hanoi, where the author of this paper has been working for, combining with data from other universities when needed.
