THE IMPACTS OF NEW GENERATION OF FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS ON INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT (FDI) ATTRACTION IN VIETNAM

This study employs the gravity model, panel data set between Vietnam and   its main trading partners who are members of CPTPP and EVFTA in the 2010 - 2023   period, OLS estimation technique, STATA software and the stationarity consideration   of the panel data, heteroscedasticity, and eliminating multicollinearity using VIF to   examine the possible impacts of the CPTPP and EVFTA on international trade and FDI   attraction in Vietnam. The estimation results show that CPTPP has an impact on   increasing Vietnam’s imports from member countries, but it has no influence on   increasing exports and FDI attraction into the country. The estimation results also   indicate that EVFTA has no impact on exports, imports, and FDI attraction of Vietnam   during the research times as the authors expected. Several policy implications for   Vietnam in the coming years are also proposed.
