Study on the barriers to adopting circular economy in agriculture among farmers in Hanoi city
Abstract
Agricultural production remains the main pillar of Vietnam's economy, contributing 12-14% of GDP and providing employment for approximately 40% of the workforce. This study focuses on clarifying the barriers faced by farmers in the Hanoi area in adopting circular economy practices in agriculture through a cross-sectional descriptive correlation survey. The research analyzes 154 data points collected from June 14 to September 30, 2024. The findings indicate that demographic factors such as age, gender, and cultivated land area influence the adoption of circular economy practices in agriculture. Additionally, economic factors serve both as a driving force and a barrier for farmers in implementing circular economy practices, alongside other obstacles such as knowledge and government policies. Based on the research findings, the author recommends several policies on communication and education, technology transfer activities, and the development of local value chains to promote circular agriculture in Hanoi and Vietnam, aiming for sustainable economic development.
